Eight years ago I was going through a transition of careers and struggling with where I was and what I was doing in life. At the time, I was given the opportunity to participate in an event called HOPEFEST. It was the first time I had seen such a gathering of providers and people in one location who care about those with great need. This event was a one-stop shop in a sense of medical services, dental services, clothing, haircuts and more. It provided all of those things we may take for granted, but to the guests, all of those services told them, YOU MATTER.
Today I am grateful to be the Community Relationship Officer for the Phoenix Rescue Mission, an organization that daily works to meet the needs of the homeless population. One of the greatest events we are privileged to partner at and serve is HOPEFEST, a one day event that provides those in need with a day of dignity, care and HOPE. Every year I am approached by our program participants with one question, “When do we get to help at HOPEFEST?” And this year the answer is Saturday, March 23rd, 2019! As an organization we will be able to serve though a variety of ways: partnering with other organizations, offering financial support, giving in-kind donations, and volunteering on the day. Our program participants are given an opportunity to give back and make a difference for others – by sharing their life journey with those struggling on the streets, by being the arms and legs to move and manage the crowds of the day but mostly being a part of caring. The role doesn’t matter. They are serving and giving back, and each man and woman who has this chance is THANKFUL and excited to be a part of this event.
Every one of us is given an opportunity to serve and by doing so will be answering God’s call. Not seeking recognition or a position in the “spotlight,” just a chance to help out. We collectively work with others to bless the church, display the love of Christ to the world, and bring glory to God.
Come be a part of this day and serve at HOPEFEST!
